Ryder was a consummate read and often spent her time reading books as she had no television. Ryder started to take acting classes at the American Conservatory Theatre when she reached the age of 12. In 1986 she was offered her first role on the big screen in the movie Lucas she was only 15 years old. Ryder experienced bullying at high school.
